Ingredients
21 ounces high-quality prepared apple pie filling
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 package refrigerated double pie crust
1 egg (for egg wash)
1 tablespoon turbinado sugar (for dusting optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a small bowl, stir the ground cinnamon into the apple pie filling until well combined.
Roll out the pie crusts on a lightly floured surface and cut circles using a 4-inch round cutter.
Place a generous tablespoon of the apple mixture in the center of each dough circle.
Fold each circle in half and use a fork to crimp the edges firmly to ensure a tight seal.
Transfer the pies to the prepared baking sheet.
Whisk the egg with a splash of water and brush the tops of the pies lightly.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
Allow to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
Ensure the edges are crimped very tightly with a fork to prevent the filling from leaking during baking. You can also brush the tops with a little milk if you prefer not to use an egg wash. Pies can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
