Description

This comforting Blackberry and Apple Crumble is the ultimate cozy dessert. With a bubbling base of tart blackberries and crisp Granny Smith apples, it is topped with a buttery, golden, and crunchy mixture of oats, brown sugar, and flour. Perfectly balanced and rustic, this fuss-free bake relies on simple pantry staples, making it an ideal choice for both beginner cooks and quick-fix dessert cravings. Serve warm for the best experience.

Ingredients

Scale

2.5 cups fresh blackberries
2.5 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and thinly sliced
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1/3 cup white granulated sugar
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
A pinch of salt
1/3 cup all-purpose or plain flour
1/3 cup light brown sugar
1/3 cup white granulated sugar
2/3 cup rolled oats
A pinch of salt
6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cubed

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
In a large bowl, combine the blackberries, sliced apples, lemon juice, 1/3 cup sugar, 3 tablespoons flour, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Toss well to coat.
Transfer the fruit mixture into a baking dish.
In a separate medium bowl, mix the flour, light brown sugar, white sugar, rolled oats, and a pinch of salt.
Add the cold cubed butter to the dry topping ingredients.
Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to work the butter into the dry mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the fruit base.
Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit filling is bubbling.
Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
