Description
A buttery, syrup-drenched Southern classic made with pantry-friendly ingredients in under an hour. Canned peaches eliminate prep time, and a spiced custard crumb delivers cozy comfort with minimal effort.
Ingredients
1 large can (29oz) sliced peaches, syrup reserved
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
3/4 cup milk (room temperature or warm)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish
Open the can of peaches and pour the drained fruit into the dish; reserve 3 tablespoons of the syrup
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg
Mix in melted butter, then stir in 3/4 cup milk and vanilla extract
Pour the batter over peaches and drizzle 3 tablespoons of reserved syrup on top
Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden and bubbly, then let cool for 10 minutes before serving
Notes
For a spiced variation, add 1/4 teaspoon ginger or cardamom
Substitute canned pineapple or pears for a different flavor
Store leftover cobbler in an airtight container for up to 3 days
Use non-alcoholic vanilla extract if required
The warm syrup thickens as the dish rests; this is intentional!
