Celebrate the cozy essence of autumn with these pillowy, pumpkin-infused cinnamon rolls. Featuring a dough enriched with earthy pumpkin puree and warm spices, these rolls are rolled with a cinnamon-sugar filling and topped with a luxurious, tangy maple cream cheese icing. Perfect for slow weekend brunches, this recipe offers a foolproof way to master homemade yeast dough while filling your home with the irresistible aroma of seasonal spices. It is a harmonious, velvet-textured treat that defines home-baked comfort.

Ingredients

Scale

1/2 cup warm milk (110-115°F)
1 packet active dry yeast
3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup pumpkin puree
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup melted butter
1 large egg
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup brown sugar (for filling)
2 tbsp cinnamon (for filling)
1/4 cup softened butter (for filling)
4 oz cream cheese, softened
2 tbsp softened butter
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 tbsp pure maple syrup

Instructions

In a small bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy
In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, pumpkin pie spice, and salt
Add the yeast mixture, pumpkin puree, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients; mix until a dough forms
Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled
Roll dough out into a rectangle on a floured surface
Spread 1/4 cup softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle with the brown sugar and cinnamon mix
Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 even rolls
Place rolls in a greased baking pan, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes
Whisk cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and maple syrup until smooth; spread over warm rolls

Notes

Ensure your milk is not too hot, or it will kill the yeast. You can prepare these the night before by refrigerating the rolls after cutting and letting them reach room temperature before baking in the morning. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
