Description

A grounding and cozy dessert that perfectly balances the refined, delicate sweetness of ripe pears with the vibrant, tart pop of fresh blackberries. This rustic crumble is elevated by a fragrant blend of warming cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom, all topped with a buttery, golden-brown crust. It is a simple, unpretentious, and comforting dish that honors seasonal ingredients, perfect for both quiet weeknights and warm Sunday gatherings with friends and family.

Ingredients

Scale

4 large ripe pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
2 cups fresh blackberries
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced pears and blackberries with white sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom until well combined.
Transfer the fruit mixture into a baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, and salt for the topping.
Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle the topping evenly over the fruit base.
Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit filling is bubbling.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream or a dollop of fresh whipped cream for extra decadence. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven to maintain the crispness of the topping.
